ALLERGIES
Injections
  • Place Buzzy® directly on the site for 30-60 seconds before the procedure
  • Place “between the brain and the pain” during the needle placement and medication administration.
  • For subcutaneous placement on the back side of the arm, place Buzzy®as shown in this picture, then slide Buzzy® toward the armpit/head during the shot itself.

Explanation of use of Buzzy® at Texas Children’s Allergy and Immunology clinic here.

For Testing
  • Relieve itching by placing Buzzy® between the shoulder blades. The nerves come in laterally to the spine, then up the spine.
Typical experience using Buzzy® for scratch testing:
  • Itching was relieved after 7 seconds when Buzzy® was used with ice pack.
  • Itching was relieved after 12 seconds when used with vibration alone.
  • Buzzy® was more effective when pressed in place at the top of the spine, but was not as effective when simply lying on the back as in the picture.
  • After removing Buzzy, the itching returned after 17 seconds following the buzzy-plus-ice wing trials, and after 13 seconds following the vibration only trials.
It has not been determined whether placing Buzzy® directly on a scratch test will alter the histamine response locally. However, vapocoolant (down to -20F) has been researched and has been found NOT to alter the reaction.

"My three small boys (ages 4, 5, 6) recently began allergy shots (three times per week, two shots each time). After a few sessions in the doctor's office, I was equipped to administer the shots at home. The first few weeks without Buzzy® were so stressful. The boys would plead with me to not give them shots, and the youngest always cried. Then, I found Buzzy. Today, the shots for two boys took less than 5 minutes, and as I held the Buzzy® on him, the littlest guy kept giggling saying, “This tickles!” He giggled even as I gave his shots. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. My six year old said he couldn’t feel the first shot at all, and the second shot was painless (but he could feel it). He said he never wanted a shot without Buzzy® again." – Julie, posted on Amazon.com
"Buzzy® was awesome for my 3 year old’s allergy scratch tests. I put Buzzy® on his spine, and Buzzy®completely took away his urge to scratch himself, despite several very positive tests. His peanut test was stopped at 5 minutes when it was over 1 inch big, with a tail. It looked like a giant rat. Yay, Buzzy!" – Lindsay B.
"I have told a number of people, including staff, about Buzzy® and how successful shots have become for my son since acquiring him." – Julie C
ARTHRITIS
FOR INJECTIONS
Buzzy® is indicated to control injection pain, and cold and vibration can help ease burning sensations from the medications like Humira, Enbrel, methotrexate or Kineret
  • Place Buzzy® with the ice pack on the site of injection, leave in place 30 – 60 seconds
  • Move toward the spine or brain to place Buzzy® “between the brain and the pain”.
  • Angle the switch toward the brain, and the bigger rounded end toward the injection to cover more surface area nerves.
For a stomach shot
  • Move Buzzy®laterally.
  • Leave the unit vibrating in place while administering the injection
  • Rub on the medication until the burning stops.
For an injection in to the thigh
  • Relax the muscle by lying down or extending the leg; even sitting in a chair can stretch the muscle and make shots more painful.
  • Move Buzzy® out and lateral after the pre-numbing.

"We cannot express how thankful we are for Buzzy! For the last three years, my son has received weekly injections of methotrexate and biweekly injections of Humira .... This therapy started when he was six years old. Trying to convince a six year old to take shots in general is difficult. Trying to convince a six year old to take a shot that is very painful is a whole different hurdle. Our process consisted of 30 to 40 minutes of negotiation along with bribes and other unsuccessful attempts at minimizing the injection pain. With Buzzy, the processes has been reduced a few minutes and the pain is GREATLY reduced." Liz Dapp

From “Tech Talk: Contraption Reduces Pain of Rheumatic Therapy Injections” – The Rheumatologist, May 2013 -Tom Collins A Boon for Rheumatology Patients Tracy Lovell, MD, a rheumatologist at the Northeast Georgia Diagnostic Clinic in Gainesville, Ga., says she suggests Buzzy® to patients when they balk at giving themselves injectable medications. About 10 of her patients use the device, she says. She says it can be particularly important in psoriatic arthritis patients who have failed infliximab (Remicade), since the only other good options in severe cases are injectable drugs like etanercept (Enbrel) and adalimumab (Humira). One patient with psoriatic arthritis flat-out refused to take an injectable until he saw how well Buzzy®worked, essentially knocking out the pain completely.
“This is a good modality to make the patient more comfortable with accepting the therapy and also be comfortable with giving it to themselves,” Dr. Lovell says. Buzzy® works because of gate control, in which the sensations of the vibration and the cold of an icepack crowd out the sharpness of the needle and the burning feeling of medication being injected. The different nerves transmitting the sensation of vibration, cold, and the burning of the injection share a final common pathway—and, with the over stimulation with vibration and the cold, the sharpness of the injection is thwarted. Dr. Baxter used the example of getting a burn on your hand and running it under cold water. “Immediately, the sharpness of pain is overwhelmed by the coldness and vibration,” she says. “That’s how Buzzy® works.”
Adults are also helped by descending inhibitory control, a phenomenon not seen in young children. Dr. Baxter describes it as a powerful sensation—like putting your hand in a bucket of ice water—taking up so much “bandwidth” that you can tolerate more pain elsewhere. This coping device is developed as we age, and is also why adults can tolerate somewhat unpleasant tastes, like bitterness, more than children. Buzzy® can be strapped on for shots in the arm, placed between the site of the injection and the brain. It can also be held in the palm and applied to the skin. It is typically held to the area for a short time before the injection to desensitize the nerves. The vibrating mechanism in Buzzy® is a flywheel motor with a piece of metal at the end of the motor that is off balance, so that when the motor spins the metal piece shakes and causes a high-frequency vibration. The motor is angled so that its energy is optimally directed to the nerves.
Dr. Baxter has gotten feedback from a woman whose 79-year-old father was so averse to needles that he almost stopped his dialysis. With Buzzy®, he continued the treatment. She says she has also heard from a woman who said the experience of giving shots to her daughter, who needs regular injections for an illness, went from a three-hour ordeal full of tantrums to a five-minute activity.
Carroll Turner, who runs a life sciences incubator and is a patient of Dr. Lovell’s, says he used to routinely put off taking his weekly Enbrel injection because of the pain of the injection. Sometimes, “I just wasn’t up to it” or “just didn’t feel like it,” he says. Since he started using Buzzy® about two years ago, he’s been taking the injections at the same time every week.
“I don’t ever miss an injection now,” he says. He rated the pain of the injection a 4 out of 10, with 10 being the worst imaginable pain, before Buzzy®. Now, the pain is a non-issue, he says. “With the Buzzy®, there’s just no pain,” he says. “It’s not as unpleasant so you don’t think about it and you just go ahead and do it,” he says. “It takes the anxiety away.”

CHILDREN
Our goal is to provide options and information about acute pain management, particularly needle procedures and use in the home. For needle phobia, blood glucose test pain, IV pain or immunization pain relief, read on!
Pain relief has become a major focus of medical professionals and children’s hospitals in recent years. While topical anesthetics have been around for decades and distraction has been proven to decrease children’s distress by about 50%, these methods haven’t been accessible to people who want to control pain themselves. We want to change that.

The concept is that controlling pain isn’t enough for children – Fear, Focus on the procedure, and Pain all contribute to the experience.

Used correctly, Buzzy decreases needle pain 50-80%. When added to DistrACTION, it can reduce pain 88%. DistrACTION® Cards alone have decreased pain more than playing with a kaleidoscope, blowing a balloon, or playing a singing cartoon game. When you bring Buzzy and engage in DistrACTION, studies show anxiety is also reduced. Addressing pain with a multimodal approach can make medical procedures no big deal!

CLINICAL PAIN MANAGEMENT
Buzzy® is an award-winning combination of cold and high frequency vibration. Using the physiology of Gate Control and Descending Noxious Inhibitory Control, vibration with or without ice can reduce pain on contact in the same way that cold running water eliminates burn pain.

FASTEST
Buzzy® works on contact.  IV placement in 3.5 minutes, compared to 40.5 minutes with LMX.  81% of phlebotomists said Buzzy® made procedure easier. 3x first stick success in pediatric patients compared to cold spray (see research below).
MOST ECONOMICAL
$0.20/three minute use, less when batteries are changed and Buzzy® device is reused.  DistrACTION® cards can be wiped and reused for years.
IMPROVE SATISFACTION
Buzzy® has been mentioned on Press-Gainey surveys by name. Phlebotomy studies show 97% of patients said the procedure was better than previously.
FDA CLEARED
Buzzy is FDA cleared to control pain safely and effectively.  Indications: “control pain from injections, IVs, phlebotomy, and cosmetic injections, as well as relief of musculoskeletal pain.”
Over 5000 hospitals and clinics use Buzzy, including 9/10 US News and World Report Top Children’s Hospitals 2015. Within one healthcare system some units will have Buzzy® and some won’t – Buzzy® may be in oncology but not ED, outpatient lab but not inpatient. “We service over 75,000 children each year at Golisano Children’s Hospital throughout western New York. We have been amazed by the response of Buzzy. We have departments and individual families asking how to purchase them. Buzzy® was endorsed by our pediatric pain committee as an essential non-pharmalogical pain intervention. We now have Buzzy® in each pediatric department within our 750 bed university medical center. Buzzy® has certainly made its impact in our delivery of care and we are excited that so many healthcare professionals are wanting to use it.” Wendy Lane, MS, CCLS

“I love our Buzzy® and use it tons in the ED. For IV placement and blood draw, of course . . . but also for digital blocks (I put buzzy in a glove to keep it clean, if the block is for a messy lac repair), splinter/foreign body removal, etc. I rarely have felt I need more than one Buzzy® at a time (though I keep a bag full of reusable ice wings in the freezer) — but we only have 12 beds in our Peds ED. For a larger unit, with multiple areas, multiple buzzies might be nice. Our outpatient clinic has one in each area. CLINICAL USE
Blood Draws
Even patients who grow accustomed to shots can find going to the lab for blood draws and IV access difficult. When the phlebotomist is too busy to wait for numbing creams or does not use needle pain control, Buzzy® provides proven relief for IV and lab draw pain.

Switch on to activate Buzzy’s vibration, then place Buzzy® and ice wings proximal to the lab draw or IV area. Do not place directly on site of access. The rounded bottom end of Buzzy®should be 3-5cm proximal to the site. Turn Buzzy® on and leave in place and vibrating throughout access. Immediately prep area and cannulate as usual.
Dialysis
More and more dialysis patients are choosing home dialysis over in-center treatment. Whether at home or in-center, Buzzy® Helps patients and dialysis techs for pain relief during access for dialysis.

Place Buzzy® and ice wings proximal to the access area. The rounded end of Buzzy® should be 3-5 cm proximal to the site.Turn Buzzy® on and leave in place and vibrating throughout access. For deeper desensitization to tissues below the skin, and when vasoconstriction is not an issue, we recommend Buzzy® be left in place 30 – 60 seconds prior to access; ice adds about 60% of the pain relief.
Injections
Over 24 million adults are self-injecting an expanding variety of biologic options for treatment at home of a wide variety of conditions. Whether treating arthritis, diabetes, MS, Crohn’s Disease, Psoriasis, the injectable medications can cause painful burning sensations. Buzzy® can help.

Pain control is maximized by placing Buzzy® with ice pack on the site of injection, leaving in place 30 – 60 seconds. The ice wings cool and numb the area and the vibration desensitizes the area. Next, move Buzzy® just proximal (toward the head or spine) during the shot. When injections burn, the pain can be relieved by rubbing Buzzy’s cold and vibration over the area after the medicine is administered. There is no risk of shrinking blood vessels.
Physical Therapy
Treating pain with drugs is not always a good option. Opioids, NSAIDs, and even acetaminophen may cause adverse health reactions. Research shows that high frequency vibration can help healing, and putting cold on pain is as old as ice itself. Buzzy’s patented combination of vibration and cold can help.

Place Buzzy® with ice pack directly where the pain is for 10 - 20 minutes, with vibration activated. If the area is constantly aching, leave vibration going as long as necessary. Great for carpal tunnel, tennis elbow, knee pain, plantar fasciitis, pre-weight lifting warm up, post-exercise soreness. Decrease inflammation, and still keep the blood flowing. Use twice a day or according to your doctor’s recommended icing regimen.
DERMATOLOGY
Botox®
Botox® is a versatile injectable, used for everything from wrinkle-reducing aesthetic procedures to migraine treatment. Injected into the muscles in the affected areas, this treatment can range from mildly uncomfortable to very painful. Buzzy® Helps with this injection pain. Buzzy’s patented combination of vibrator and ice pack are FDA-cleared for cosmetic injections, as Buzzy® has been clinically proven effective at reducing pain for needle procedures and injections. See video here of Buzzy being used for Mrs. Universe’s Botox®!

For hyperhydrosis injection pain from Botox, place Buzzy® on the site to pre-numb for 15-30 seconds. During the procedure, place Buzzy® between the brain and the pain. On the palm, pre-numb, then slide Buzzy toward the wrist for the injection.

On the face, press Buzzy® to the bone nearest the injection for best pain relief. The dermatome for the forehead comes downward straight from the scalp line, so place buzzy between the hairline and the injection. Cosmetic Injections
Cold and vibration have been proven to naturally decrease pain for waxing, tattoos, and laser procedures. ELECTROLYSIS

Modern electrolysis devices destroy the growth center of the hair with chemical or heat energy. After a very fine probe is inserted into the hair follicle, the hair is removed with tweezers. Most areas of the body can be treated with electrolysis and the process can be uncomfortable and painful. Numbing creams take 20 to 60 minutes to work or can be messy, or rarely cause toxicity when on too much surface area. Buzzy’s cold and vibration help naturally decrease pain, as seen in this video.

On the face, press Buzzy® to the bone nearest the injection for best pain relief. Make sure the bottom of Buzzy® is pointing toward the needle or device with the switch end pointing away. Cold and ice work best in areas where there is one nerve pathway, or dermatome. In areas like the bikini, there are too many overlapping nerves, so focusing on vibration sensations while holding Buzzy® on the chest as pure distraction may work best for the most delicate areas to be treated.
Laser Procedures
Lasers can permanently reduce or remove unwanted hair. Laser procedures are increasingly used for skin resurfacing. For many, laser treatment can be associated with a stinging sensation. Buzzy’s patented combination of vibrator and ice pack can help reduce the pain.

Tattoo Application
Even the most eager tattoo enthusiast will agree that getting a tattoo hurts! Cold and vibration have been proven to naturally decrease pain for waxing, tattoos, and laser procedures.

Place Buzzy® on the site to pre-numb for 30-60 seconds. During the procedure, place Buzzy® between the brain and the pain. Make sure the bottom of Buzzy® is pointing toward the needle with the switch end pointing away.
Tattoo Removal
Unwanted body art? Laser tattoo removal techniques can eliminate tattoos by breaking up the pigment colors of the design with a high-intensity light beam. The removal process can be painful and Buzzy® can help. Place Buzzy® on the site to pre-numb for 30-60 seconds. During the procedure, place Buzzy® between the brain and the pain. Make sure the bottom of Buzzy® is pointing toward the needle with the switch end pointing away. Buzzy® Mini has an indentation on the bottom end, showing to “put the shot near the dot.”
Warts & Cryotherapy
For common warts in adults and older children, cryotherapy (freezing) and injection of an irritant are the most common treatments. Buzzy® can help with the pain associated with cryotherapy and wart removal.Place Buzzy® “Between the brain and the pain” proximal to the area of freezing. Because cold will be used, there is no need to wait 30 seconds, simply place the vibrating Buzzy® with or without cold packs proximally. Note: If you are accustomed to patients reacting to pain as a sign to stop spraying, be aware that the pain relief may blunt their reaction.

DIABETES
Buzzy® can help with finger sticks and injections making it helpful for kids and adults living with diabetes.
VIDEOS
ARM INJECTIONS
For injections, Buzzy® needs to be “between the brain and the pain”.
In the arms, the nerves run straight down. For pump insertion on an arm, as in this picture, Buzzy® is left directly on the site 60 seconds. Move Buzzy® up toward the armpit and leave in place while accessing.
STOMACH INJECTIONS
For stomach injections, the nerves run sideways coming around from the back towards the belly button. Again, leave the Buzzy® 30 – 60 seconds (the skin is thinner here, so the cold may get TOO cold), then slide 2cm lateral out to the side and do the injection where the Buzzy® used to be.
FINGER STICKS
For fingersticks, either place Buzzy® at the base of the finger for pricks on the pad, or as close as possible on the side (where there are fewer nerves).
DIABETES TESTIMONIALS
“I want to give you some feedback on your wonderful product. Our daughter is 8 years old and has had type 1 diabetes since age 3. She has lived through about 6 shots per day for the past 5 years. That’s over 10,000 shots so far!!!! Needless to say we are quite familiar with needles at our house. Yet she “hates” Lantus shots because the medicine really stings from its acidity and she has never let us give her an injection in her stomach because she was too afraid. Welcome Buzzy! Last night was the first time we tried it for Lantus and she kissed Buzzy® after her shot and said “God bless you”. Today she let us give her injection in her stomach for the first time and she said it didn’t hurt!”
“After months of searching for a way of making daily injections less stressful and painful for our young daughter with type 1 diabetes we eventually found the answer with Buzzy. Amelia uses Buzzy® every day and wont Bee without it. The difference it makes is amazing.” – Beccy, mother of Amelia.
“Carlie is type 1 diabetic, she was diagnosed when she was 18 months old. She is currently having 5 injections per day. She is due to have the pump fitted shortly which will certainly be better for her but she will have to have the canula changed every 3 days so Buzzy® will certainly help. She is so pleased with Buzzy® she asked to give you a big thank you. Our daughter also asked us to thank you for making Carlie so happy. Please keep up the good work.”
” We are very happy that Buzzy® is here. Kids that endure daily shots will appreciate Buzzy® b/c it is a. cute and b. someone who is there to help them. Thanks for helping ease pain. I hope every kid with diabetes gets one. We will take it with us to our next endo appt and show the doctors and take Buzzy® to the dreaded blood draws.” Sincerely, Dr. Jennifer M.
Buzzy® is a lifesaver!!! I am a diabetic and on meds to which I am maxed out on them. I have been prescribed Victoza which is an injectible but due to a really bad needle phobia I cannot take it.I cannot take insulin either because it’s also an injectible. My sugars were extremely high and no where to go with controlling it.Thanks to the Buzzy, I have been able to use the Victoza, keep my sugars down, and have lost a good amount of weight from the Victoza (from 167 to 151 in one week) and I feel great and my doctor is happy. I highly recommend this to anyone who has a needle phobia!!!I have told everyone I know about it and have explained my situation to them to tell them how much the Buzzy® has been a Godsend to me. I was skeptical at first but I decided to give it a try and $40.00 seemed like a small price to pay for something that could potentially help. I was at my wits end and even knowing I absolutely needed to be on the Victoza I just could not force myself to do it again on my own. I have done it a few times but had a bad experience—-very uncomfortable and had to stop the Victoza once. When my doctor heard I wanted to get back on it again (after using the Buzzy® which she didn’t know about) she told a lot of other doctors at the clinic that by knowing me she thought there was no way I was going to stick with it. She told me herself the story about saying that to everyone on the last visit. I explained to her about the Buzzy® and how it’s helped me to be able to use the Victoza and she was ecstatic. I gave her the website and she is going to check it out and recommend it as well. I had also gotten close to the diabetes educator who had tried to help me and be supportive and she was disappointed but understood my fear and why I couldn’t. When she called me back and I told her about the Victoza and the Buzzy® she had more excitement in her voice than I did.She is also going to check out the website and recommend it to everyone (like me) that has a needle phobia.Your product has helped me not only tremendously but has helped turn my life around. Not only did I lose weight from the Victoza but my A1C went from an 8.0 (terrible) to a 7.2 and my doctor wanted me 7.0 or under so I am so close and she is over the moon that I was able to accomplish what I did. I would have never been able to do it on my own without the Buzzy! Thank you for inventing such an ingenious product!" - Janet M.
FIRST AID
Bee Stings/Insect Stings & Bites
Some of these insects leave a stinger, others do not. This will be obvious to the naked eye. If you do not see a stinger, skip straight to the work of treating pain, detailed below. If you do see a stinger, remove it as quickly as possible since the venom sac will release venom as long as the stinger is in. Fingers work fine if tweezers are not available.

Ice directly on the site immediately may be too intense. Placing Buzzy® (with or without ice pack) near the sting can help. Place Buzzy® “between the brain and the pain” to block the stinging sensation. Once the sting starts itching, scratching will spread and worsen the reaction. Buzzy® will relieve the itch without spreading the reaction. Use ibuprofen and ice for pain relief.

Systemic reactions (e.g., wheezing, lip swelling, vomiting, hives) are beyond this tip guide. Give Benadryl and call or go to the doctor. Even non-allergic kids react about 4-10x what they would to a mosquito bite, including redness, swelling, and pain, followed by itching.
Injuries
An overuse injury is any type of muscle or joint injury, such as tendinitis or a stress fracture, caused by repetitive trauma. These injuries are more likely as we get older. Always consult your doctor before starting a new activity or when injury occurs. Anytime your doctor recommends icing an injury, Buzzy® can help.

Treating pain with drugs is not always a good option. Opioids, NSAIDs, and even acetaminophen may cause adverse health reactions. Typical icing routines can be enhanced with vibration. Buzzy’s patented combination of ice and vibration is a comfortable way to help with the aches and pains all over the body. Buzzy® Helps when you put it where you are hurting.

For aches and pains, simply place Buzzy® directly on the site for 10 - 20 minutes, twice a day, or according to your doctor’s recommended icing regimen. The anti-inflammatory effects of ice and high frequency vibration work together to relieve pain and keep muscles moving. For extremities, attach Buzzy® with the strap.
Splinter
Removing a splinter is easiest either immediately or one day after it lodges. Redness around the splinter can make it hurt more. If it does not come out easily, soak the area or apply antibiotic ointment. The body will have a chance to make fluid and infection-fighting white cells, which can make it easier to remove the next day. Whenever you remove the splinter, Buzzy® can help.

Make sure your child is in a comfortable spot with good lighting. Let the “patient” play with Buzzy® for a moment to get used to it. When you’re ready, place Buzzy® a few centimeters away from the splinter. For best results, make sure the ice pack is frozen solid, and leave in place about 30 seconds or longer. If they have a doll or animal, consider taping or placing a toothpick, and let them concentrate on taking it out while you do. You can use any of the distractions listed on the Pain Distraction page (blow out a puff of air, add numbers, do a task).

For a finger splinter, put Buzzy® in the palm with the vibrating end toward the splinter. For a toe or foot splinter, have your child lay on their tummy, and put Buzzy® on the foot. Turn it on, and after 10 seconds or so, try to remove the splinter.

For a large splinter, gently splitting the skin on top of the lodged splinter can make it easier to remove. Once finished, apply antibiotic ointment with or without a band-aid. If some parts of the splinter remain, soaking in soapy water or just waiting should do the trick. If the area gets more red or has drainage, see your doctor.
INJURIES AND PAIN RELIEF
Aches
Aches and pains are a fact of life. Buzzy® Helps when you put it where it hurts.

Carpal Tunnel
Carpal tunnel syndrome is a condition of the hand and arm that causes numbness, tingling and pain symptoms. The anti-inflammatory effects of ice and high frequency vibration work together to relieve pain and keep muscles moving. Buzzy® is FDA cleared for temporary relief of aches and injuries, controlling pain on contact using Cool-Pulse™ Technology.

Attach Buzzy® with the hands free strap (included) to the extremity. Leave in place 10 – 20 minutes twice a day or according to your doctor’s recommended icing regimen. Use vibration alone prior to workouts to relieve delayed onset muscle soreness.
Knee Pain
Knee pain occurs in and around the knee joint. Pain can range from mild to debilitating. Self-care measures, including Buzzy, can help. Treating pain with drugs is not always a good option. Opioids, NSAIDs, and even acetaminophen may cause adverse health reactions. High frequency vibration can help healing, and putting cold on pain is as old as ice itself. Buzzy® is FDA cleared for temporary relief of aches and injuries, controlling pain on contact using Cool-Pulse™ Technology.

Attach ice pack to Buzzy® and secure to affected area with hands-free strap for 10 - 20 minutes. If the area is constantly aching, leave vibration going as long as necessary. Great for pre-weight lifting warm up and post-exercise soreness. Decrease inflammation, and still keep the blood flowing. Use twice a day or according to your doctor’s recommended icing regimen.
Myofascial Trigger Points
Myofascial pain syndrome is a chronic pain disorder. Pressure on sensitive points in the muscles (trigger points) causes referred pain in seemingly unrelated parts of the body. Myofascial pain syndrome typically occurs after a muscle has been contracted repetitively. Treating pain with drugs is not always a good option. Opioids, NSAIDs, and even acetaminophen may cause adverse health reactions. Buzzy® is FDA cleared to treat myofascial pain caused by trigger points, restricted motion and muscle tension.

Neck Aches
Neck muscles can be strained from injury, poor posture, arthritis, or more serious problems requiring medical attention. Treating pain with drugs is not always a good option. Opioids, NSAIDs, and even acetaminophen may cause adverse health reactions. Research shows that high frequency vibration can help healing, and putting cold on pain is as old as ice itself. Buzzy® is FDA cleared for temporary relief of aches and injuries, controlling pain on contact using Cool-Pulse™ Technology.

Attach ice pack to Buzzy® and activate vibration; tuck under clothing or hold in place on affected area for 10 - 20 minutes. If the area is constantly aching, leave vibration going as long as necessary. Great for pre-weight lifting warm up and post-exercise soreness. Decrease inflammation, and still keep the blood flowing. Use twice a day or according to your doctor’s recommended icing regimen.
Plantar Fasciitis
Plantar fasciitis is one of the most common causes of heel pain. It is caused by inflammation of the thick band of tissue that runs across the bottom of the foot and connects heel bone to toes. Buzzy® can help reduce this pain and inflammation.

Restricted Muscles

Decrease inflammation, and still keep the blood flowing. Use twice a day or according to your doctor’s recommended icing regimen.

Attach ice pack to Buzzy® and secure to affected area with hands-free strap for 10 - 20 minutes. If the area is constantly aching, leave vibration going as long as necessary. Use twice a day or according to your doctor’s recommended icing regimen. For neck, shoulder or lower back pain, tuck under clothing or hold in place.
Sore Shoulders
Shoulder pain may originate in the joint itself, or from any of the many surrounding muscles, ligaments or tendons.

Attach ice pack to Buzzy® and activate vibration; tuck under clothing or hold in place on affected shoulder for 10 - 20 minutes. VACCINATIONS
Pain control is maximized by using Buzzy’s ice wings to cool/numb and vibration to desensitize the area directly for 30-60 seconds, then move Buzzy® just proximal (toward the head or spine) during the shot. When injections burn, the pain can be relieved by rubbing Buzzy’s cold and vibration over the area after the medicine is in.

Put an arm around your child age 4+ and hold Buzzy® on the site (red dot in the picture) for about 30 seconds before the shot. Even with Buzzy® there will be dull touch sensations (those are transmitted on different nerves that Buzzy® doesn’t block) so use distraction questions or DistrACTION® cards to entertain and pull attention away if the child already has a needle phobia.

When the injection is ready, move the Buzzy® up and keep pressing on the nearest bony surface to maximize vibration transmission. If multiple immunizations are being given, change out the cold packs on each arm so the sites each have 30 seconds of numbing.

Buzzy® decreased pain 73% for children aged 7 getting a single TDap immunization. In one adult group average age 64, 84% found the flu vaccine to be painless with Buzzy, and 88% said they’d use Buzzy® again. However, children’s pain level increases the more injections they get on the same day.

For younger children aged 4-6 who are getting multiple injections, distraction is a critical part. Use the Buzzy® ice pack on the site, but consider using the vibration of Buzzy® to play the “Elbow Game” as seen in this video.

Kids do best if they’re under-promised and Buzzy® then over-performs. Let children play and experiment with Buzzy® to get used to the sensations before using it for shots, and reserve the distraction cards for if the elbow game isn’t feasible. When children are getting a single injection, Buzzy® should be sufficient. If getting multiple injections, plan to use more [pain management techniques.]LINK TO PAIN MANAGEMENT PAGE

Buzzy® can be held in place with a tourniquet or Velcro strap, and can also be placed in the palm of the nurse’s hand leaving fingers free to bunch up skin.
