Buzzy® Helps for Injections

Arthritis
Painful arthritis shots are no fun for anyone. Buzzy® helps ease the medication burn caused by anti-rheumatic drugs like Humira, Enbrel, methotrexate, or Kineret.

Place Buzzy® with ice pack on the site of injection, leave in place 30 – 60 seconds, then move upward “between the brain and the pain.” For stomach shots, move Buzzy® laterally. Leave in place while administering the shot, then rub on the medication until the pain stops. For a shot in the thigh, relax the muscle by lying down. Even sitting in a chair can stretch the muscle and make shots more painful. Move Buzzy® out and lateral after the pre-numbing.

Refer to the Instruction Manual for more detail.

Blood Thinners
Injecting blood thinning medications can be painful. Buzzy® helps ease the irritation of anticoagulant drugs like Lovenox.

Pain control is maximized by placing Buzzy® with ice pack on the site of injection, leaving in place 30 – 60 seconds. The ice wings cool and numb the area and the vibration desensitizes the area. Next, move Buzzy® just proximal (toward the head or spine) during the shot. When injections burn, the pain can be relieved by rubbing Buzzy’s cold and vibration over the area after the medicine is administered. There is no risk of shrinking blood vessels.

Special instructions for children: A parent can place an arm around the child and hold Buzzy® on the site for about 30 seconds before the shot. Even with Buzzy® there will be dull touch sensations (those are transmitted on different nerves that Buzzy® does not block), so use distraction questions or our DistrACTION® cards to entertain and pull attention away. When the shot is ready, move Buzzy® up and keep pressing on the nearest bony surface to maximize vibration transmission.

Crohn's Disease
Injectable medications used to treat the symptoms of inflammatory bowel disease can cause burning and discomfort. Buzzy® helps ease the discomfort of biologics like like Humira, Remicade, and Cimzia.

Diabetes
Being diagnosed with diabetes can be overwhelming. When someone already fears needles, new onset diabetes can seem tragic. Buzzy® helps ease the discomfort of diabetic protocols such as glucose monitoring and insulin injections.

For injections, Buzzy® should be placed “between the brain and the pain.” In the arms, the nerves run straight down (fingers to shoulders to spine). For injections the stomach the nerves run sideways coming around from the back towards the belly button; place the bottom of Buzzy® on the line lateral to the umbilicus. For fingersticks, switch on to activate vibration, then press Buzzy® on the palm with the bottom end toward the finger.

Finger Sticks
A variety of biometric screenings are conducted on venous blood obtained by fingerstick or fingerprick. Repeated testing can cause sensitivity. Buzzy® helps reduce pain when monitoring essential measures of your health.

For fingersticks, switch on to activate vibration, then press Buzzy® on the palm with the bottom end toward the finger either place Buzzy® at the base of the finger for pricks on the pad, or as close as possible on the side (where there are fewer nerves).

Immunoglobulin/Infusions
Many conditions affecting the immune system require the administration of medication through a needle or catheter. Small infusions under the skin (e.g., subcutaneous immunoglobulin) or larger intravenous immunoglobulin infusions can be painful. Buzzy® helps with painful and burning sensations.

Patients can rub Buzzy® on the site after an injection, or place Buzzy® on the infusion site during unpleasant sensations.

IVF
To get sufficient follicles and eggs for the in vitro fertilization process, the mom-to-be is stimulated with injected medications (Lupron, FSH, HCG) to develop multiple follicles. The technique for giving the injections is easy to learn, but the injections can be painful. Buzzy® can help ease the pain of these injections.

Always follow your doctor’s recommended technique. Choose your injection site (abdomen, thigh, or back of upper arm); if possible, use a different spot for the next shot. Buzzy® should be placed “between the brain and the pain.” For the stomach, the nerves run sideways coming around from the back towards the belly button; place the bottom of Buzzy® on the line lateral to the umbilicus. On the arms, the nerves run straight down (fingers to shoulders to spine). On the thigh, the nerves run diagonally from the inner thigh around to the back of the spine.

Monitor & Pump Placement
Insulin pumps and continuous glucose monitors bring precision and convenience to diabetes care. Buzzy® can help with placement of infusion sets, insertion devices, and introducer needles.

For pump insertion on an arm, Buzzy® is left directly on the site 60 seconds. Move Buzzy® up toward the armpit and leave in place while accessing.

Psoriasis
For psoriasis patients not responding to traditional therapy or who have associated psoriatic arthritis, drugs given by intravenous infusion, intramuscular injection or subcutaneous injection may be prescribed. For at-home injections of Enbrel, Remicade, Humira, Cosentyx, or Stelara, Buzzy® Mini Personal can help.
